Craps and other table games are not going to come to the state of New Hampshire as it was recently expected. A measure was recently created which would have allowed thousands of video slot games as well as table games such as craps and roulette. However the senate panel in the state has stopped the bill from moving any further into legislation. The bill was filed by Lou D’Allesdandro a democratic senator for the state. It was called SB 182 and this was the senator’s thirteenth attempt to pass a piece of gambling legislation. A hearing was held by the Senate Ways and Means Committee on the bill just a few days ago and they decided to retain it. The idea was the bill could be passed and the revenues made with the table games and video slot games could then be used for the budget but that is not going to happen any time soon.
An article in the Associated Press stated that the House Speaker William O’Brien has stated he is opposed to expanding gambling in the state. He said even if he did support the bill he does not think the House will pass a bill to legalize video slot gaming.
So in the meantime the bill will remain dormant. However when summer comes, D’Allesandro is planning on trying to revive the gambling bill if the he has the chance in June. If the committee is discussing cuts and revenues this summer he may be able to push his bill and see it move forward. The budget for 2012 and 2013 will go into effect on July 1st so if the state has any chance of adding the games in the new couple years the opportunity has to come now.
