In North Carolina, several homes were raided as they were suspected of being involved in a high stakes poker and gambling operation. The North Carolina Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement raided several homes and have now arrested ten people and taken in almost $200,000. The homes raided were located in Raleigh and Wendell. Law enforcement was brought in after complaints were filed by several residents in the area. The homes were searched and investigators were able to find many items that were being used in an underground operation. An investigator on the case commented that sports betting and high stakes poker was going on with barricaded doors, armed security personnel and surveillance equipment.
Recovered on the scenes were craps tables, poker tables, surveillance equipment, computers, drug paraphernalia, marijuana as well as an AR-15 assault rifle. Ten people were charged after the raids and all were given misdemeanor violations. Some were changed with just one violation while others received several violations.
Most of the arrests involved people who were playing the games. They just happened to be on the premises when the raid took place. Others were operating the games or the gaming houses and they received more charges than the others.
Investigators are still working on this case and are expecting more information to come to light in the near future. One would suspect that some of those arrested in the raid will come forward against others in an attempt to earn a plea deal.
