The casinos located in the state of Delaware are struggling to make a profit, especially with the craps, blackjack and poker tables. Because the casinos are doing so poorly, officials in the state may decide to cut taxes on the casinos. This would allow the three casinos in Delaware to keep more profit for themselves. Revenue in all areas of casino gaming are down at the three Delaware casinos. The state decided to start allowing table games such as craps, blackjack and poker not too long ago but these games have yet to pay off. The casinos started to head downhill a few years ago when the state of Pennsylvania began offering gambling options and then Maryland opened casinos last year so even more patrons were drawn out of state.
The competition is so fierce in the neighboring states that the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino earned zero profits for the first part of this year. Ed Sutor the CEO of the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino commented on the revenue drop by stating:
"This is the first time in Dover Downs history we have lost money. And in our second quarter we reported to the Securities and Exchange Commission that we made less than 1 percent."
Sutor went on to say that the casinos have made no profits on the table games like craps and blackjack. If officials decide to hand out tax breaks, the additional money could be used to market the casinos which would bring more people in. Sutor stated that the casinos have had no money to promote themselves so the extra money would be used for advertisements.
