Mike Ashley is the owner of Newcastle United a football club in the United Kingdom. The owner has made himself quite a fortune as the owner of the football club but now that fortune has dwindled just a bit since Ashley took to a recent gambling stint. Recently the football club owner was at the Aspers Casino which is located in Newcastle when he decided to gamble at the craps tables. It was round eleven in the evening when Ashley and the Newcastle United team manager Alan Pardew took to the craps tables.
Ashley was in good spirits and was having a great streak of luck and pretty soon found himself up around £130,000. Playing smart, Ashley decided to lock £100,000 of his earnings into his account and then he continued to play at the craps tables with the remaining £30,000.
After he started losing the £30,000 he made an unwise decision and dipped into his player account. Ashley would continue to play for five hours straight and he was eventually forced to stop gambling as he had lost almost £1,000,000.
According to eye witnesses, Ashley was wagering tens of thousands of pounds at one time, so it is no surprise that the football club owner lost so much money. The total amount Ashley lost was £970,000. Ashley not only owns the football club but he also created Sports Worlds which is the largest sporting retail company in the UK. His estimated net worth is around £2 billion but now his worth has decreased to around £700,000.
Ashley was still in a good move however when he left the casino despite the loss. Ashley even gracious with his money when he left, as he gave the dealer a £700 tip.
