All across the United States, casinos are beginning to add more gaming options. The first game a gambling facility will add is slots but most gamblers want to enjoy table games as well. Several states have been relaxing their laws to add table games and Maryland is one such state that is considering adding the games. However, the governor of Maryland, Martin O’Malley, has stated that he thinks the push to legalize table games in the casinos of his state is not the most productive move. O’Malley believes that the lawmakers in the state need to discuss improving the state in the next legislative session.
A forum took place this past week on the subject with the Baltimore Sun, a local newspaper, and O’Malley said he ‘is not barking up that tree’ referring to table games like craps and roulette. O’Malley went on to state that he respects the different opinions on the matter and he greatly respects Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller who is a large supporter of expanded gambling to try and compete with neighboring states that offer these types of games.
O’Malley commented on the Senate President by stating: “Some of the most difficult things that we had to do we would not have been able to do without his leadership. But it’s not part of my budget proposal, and I think it’s a distraction from the better and much more productive conversation we should, could and are having about what sort of choices we need to make to give our children a better future.”
