All across the United States, individual states are deciding to add various gambling games to existing facilities or to create new facilities. Some are adding table games while others are expanding on their slot offerings or just starting from scratch and creating brand new casinos. The state of Maryland has now seen legislation introduced that would allow table games in the state. Just this past week the democratic senator from Baltimore County Kathy Klausmeier introduced a measure during the latest session of state leaders. The legislation would allow table games such as craps and blackjack to be added to the states slot machine facilities.
The senator says she is in favor of legalizing the games for the state because they are offered in neighboring states. The states that are offering games such as craps, blackjack and poker now have a competitive edge over the state of Maryland gambling facilities.
Despite the move to bring the measure to the state senate is it unclear as to if the legislation will be passed. The governor, Martin O’Malley, has stated that he was not going to push for table games. He was asked during his campaign last year. So if the bill was to get passed by O’Malley and he was to sign it, the bill would still have to be approved by Maryland voters before it could move forward.
So there are a lot of steps that need to happen before table games would be allowed in the state. But if the measure is passed it would mean more jobs for people in the state as well as more revenues for the state. Not to mention more gambling opportunities for those who enjoy playing table games.
