An Omaha casino is set to reopen very soon but players will find the casino will be lacking an important part of casino gaming, table games. Table games play an important role in casino gaming and the Casino Omaha, owned by the Omaha Indian tribe will be reopening in December minus the games. The casino closed back in June of last year due to a decline in business and regulatory problems. The casino will now reopen on December 15th and offer 420 new slot machines, all of which are coinless. Table games such as craps, roulette and blackjack will be added in 2011.
Bill Walsh the chief executive officer for the Blackbird Bend Corp., a subsidiary of the tribe, commented: “We are taking our time and doing things slowly.” The casino wants to make sure they are doing everything correctly to remain open.
The casino opened in 1992 and had a good average of customers per week until three casinos opened nearby. Then when the recession hit the casino did even worse and the National Indian Gaming Commission recommended that the tribe close the casino on a voluntary basis because of regulatory violations.
The casino now has new internal controls and a board made up of three members that will oversee the operations of the casino. Walsh commented that this past week the national commission visited the Casino Omaha and authorized the casino to reopen.
When the casino first opened they employed almost four hundred people but with the reopen only about ninety people will be employed by the casino. Hopefully as the casino begins to get back into business and the New Year comes, and the addition of table games, the casino will be able to hire more employees which will help the community.
