Parx Casino is a casino located in Pennsylvania that has decided to add table games to their gaming floor. With the addition of games such as craps and blackjack, the casino will now need dealers to work the new games. To find experienced dealers the casino recently held a job fair in the area. The interesting aspect of the job fair was that other area casinos had recently laid off their table dealers so the Parx Casino was able to meet with many experienced dealers who had been laid off. The Mohegan Sun had to lay off hundreds of table game dealers include several supervisors. The Foxwoods Resort Casino also laid off about forty dealers as well so the Parx Casino actually got lucky with the people who showed up at the job fair.
The job fair took place at the Mystic Marriott and lasted for two days. One former Mohegan Sun Dealer Robert Williams attended the job fair. Williams stated that it is ironic that the job fair took place just two weeks after some of the layoffs took place. Williams commented that being a dealer is his career and his passion. He commented that when a dealer works at a new casino it is always good as the casino is going to be pretty busy for the first few years.
The Parx Casino has hired almost 400 people to work the 50+ table games. The table games at the casino include craps, roulette, blackjack and baccarat. The casino now needs to hire 300 to 400 more dealers for work the new poker room which has twenty four tables. The casino also needs about 80 of the workers to have supervisory experience.
