RVing is a national past time for many people. Travelers can simply load up in their RV and travel across the United States to enjoy the many sights and tourists attractions in the continental United States. Many RV travelers like to visit Las Vegas or other areas with casinos but they find there is nowhere to hook up their RV and stay awhile. Penn Harris Gaming is looking to change that. Penn Harris Gaming is working to change a Holiday Inn which is located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to a $75 million resort casino which will feature RV World. The hotel currently does not have enough rooms to qualify as a resort casino but the investors plan on offering 36 recreational vehicles on the premises for overnight stays and this will help meet the requirements.
Penn Harris went to local hearings on Monday to try to gain the last gambling license the state has to offer. John Donnelly an attorney with Penn Harris commented: “Pennsylvania is very big on RVs. We hope to tap a completely different market than other casinos.” He commented the state is easily a magnet for RV owners as highway access is easy and car shows attract visitors.
The hotel sits on twenty two acres and there would be a nice area for RVs where they could part and there would also be outdoor sports facility created to provide family entertainment. Michael Sklar an attorney with the project stated that if approved the new facility would create 300 full time jobs as well as bring in $1.6 million in annual revenues without the impact of a full fledge casino. Players would be able to enjoy craps and other table games since Pennsylvania offers this option now.
Despite the pros of the proposal there are those who are against the idea. Penn National Gaming is heavily opposed due to the fact that the new casino would be close to their Hollywood casino and they stated they would argue the point the facility does meet the room requirements.
