The Sahara Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is a landmark in the city as it has been open for fifty eight years on the Vegas Strip. The casino shut down for good this past weekend and players were able to visit one last time to enjoy their favorite casino games. The casino was loved by many visitors to the city as well as those who lived nearby. Players loved the fact they could play craps, blackjack and other games for just one dollar as well as enjoy dollar beers. Many regular visitors came to the casino one last time before it closed while other people who had never visited the casino wanted to see a piece of Vegas history before it was shut down for good.
A former dealer of the Sahara Casino, John Law, was interviewed by a local news reporter on his thoughts of the casino. Law was a dealer at the casino for thirty one years and he commented that in the old days it was not uncommon to earn 300, 500 or twenty seven hundred in just four hours.
Many players came to get a piece of history as well. Players were taking home chips and other memorabilia so they could say they had once been at the historic casino. Law commented that the casino used to be a very classy ‘joint’ and he knows it is not the same and will never be the same.
Despite the closing of the casino, the Sahara Casino will always be remembered on the strip for once being a classy casino that everyone enjoyed. The casino officially closed on Monday May 16th.
