Many residents in the state of Rhode Island would like to see table games such as craps, blackjack and poker to be added to the Twin River slot parlor. Supporters of the plan to add the table games are afraid that if the games are not added soon, the state of Massachusetts will soon take away gamblers if they pass the games first. It is believed that the state would lose out on up to $100 million if residents of Rhode Island go to Massachusetts to gamble. Voters in the state will have a chance to vote for casino legalization on next year’s ballot. Voters will be able to vote whether or not they would like to see table games added to the Twin River slot parlor.
If Twin River is allowed to add the new table games a total of around 650 jobs would be crated and about $60 million in state revenues would be created. According to laws in the state, voters must approve a measure to be able to see casinos created. Back in 2006, a piece of legislation was put up for a vote for the Narragansett Indian tribe to be able to open a casino. Voters denied their measure and this could happen yet again.
Representative Michael Marcello of Rhode Island commented: “Every time this comes up it’s rejected. At some point you have to respect the will of the voters. I think our time would be better spent trying to find other ways to bring more high paying jobs into the state.”
However, others feel differently and think this is the time the bill will be passed. Only time will tell, and if enough voters are for the changes, then the measure will pass after next year’s voting.
