Twin River is a slot parlor located in Rhode Island and the operators of the parlor are hoping that they will be able to add table games very soon. The operators of the parlor headed to the State House just two days ago to pitch their ideas for turning the slot parlor into a full scale casino. If they get approval, the parlor would offer craps as well as blackjack and other table games that are currently banned in the state. Operators of Twin River say they will be creating 650 new jobs at both the new gaming hall as well as businesses that run it. They say they will be able to generate over $62 million in direct as well as indirect economic activity. Teamsters Local 251 secretary and treasurer Joseph J. Bairos sent in a letter of endorsement for the parlor to make the changes in the hopes of swaying the House members. It read:
“Nothing is as important to me, my fellow leaders of Local 251, and in fact, our entire membership, than securing and keeping good paying jobs in Rhode Island. We must expand this incredible asset, Twin River, not only to survive against competition in neighboring states, but to thrive in our endeavor to bring on line more union jobs and salaries.”
The facility already has over 4,700 electronic gambling games including virtual blackjack. They want to be able to add table games in the real sense of the word. They want real tables that feature craps, blackjack and other table games and hopefully the House will be on their side and allow a voter referendum on the subject when voting comes around again.
