Tom Becnel is the owner of the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Sandestin, Florida and he was making big plans to add a casino to the resort. However, Becnel has not been supported by the homeowners at the resort so he has scrapped the idea for now. Florida legislature recently have gotten access to two bills that propose that limited gambling options should be expanded to included offerings at destination resorts in Florida. A state department of gaming control would be set up in the state and this would create a state gaming commission which would be head of the department.
The limited gambling options which would be allowed at the resort destinations would include slot machine gaming as well as craps and roulette. there would also be the possibility of other games of chance or wagering opportunity that that state gaming commission could allow at a resort if they so choose.
Becnel had been working on a conceptionalized design of what the gambling options could be like at his resort but stated that he would not move forward with design plans without a high amount of home owners supporting the idea.
Back on January 10th, Becnel held a owners only town hall style meeting and discussed the topic. Becnel stated that he presented preliminary ideas and information about what they wanted to do and then they listened to what the owners had to say and respected their opinion.
In the end, the home owners came together and voted on the issue. The ballots showed a twenty one percent amount of the owners were in favor of the option while seventy nine of those who have ownership in the property do not want to see gambling available.
