Land casinos exist all across the United States and to keep up with the competition, many casinos have to add more games or make changes to be on the same level as neighboring casinos. Deadwood casino in Pierre, South Dakota is considering the addition of craps and roulette as their neighboring state, Colorado, is stiff competition since they offer the games. Casino operators at Deadwood casino have talked about adding craps and roulette to their offering of card games and slots. The casino has only offered card games and slots for the past two decades that the casino has been in operation.
Ken Gienger the president of the Deadwood Gaming Association commented that the Gaming Association is not ready to ask voters for permission to add the new games. Gienger commented that Deadwood casino operators have to keep up with the latest trends and what other casinos are doing. This of course would include Colorado casinos, which added craps and roulette back in July.
For craps and roulette to be added to the casino, voters would have to approve the games statewide. Currently the state Constitution limits casinos to slot games and card games. Blackjack and poker are included in these games but not craps or roulette.
State Senator Tom Nelson says that supporters will most likely not pus the idea of adding the new games in the 2010 legislative session, so it may be some time before casino operators see any move for legislation.
