Dealer schools have been popping up all over the northeast as casinos are getting ready to add table games such as craps and blackjack to their gaming floors. The Presque Isle Downs & Casino is one of the establishments that have begun training dealers for these games. The casino has completed three weeks of dealer training school for craps, blackjack and other games. The school is preparing the students for a new job in the Erie region as table games are expected to be added this summer.
Craps students must train for twelve weeks as the game is more complicated than most casino games. Lavona Smith a Millcreek resident is training for craps and she stated: “I didn’t know anything about it before. It’s something different and it seems really interesting to me—and it keeps my (employment) options open.”
The casino is currently four shifts of training which takes place from 8am to midnight. This is so the program can accommodate the 370 applicant’s schedules. After the training is completed the students will audition before a trainer.
